Richard Shinners

Rick Shinners joined J&K as Of Counsel in September 2026 when Hammond and Shinners joined J&K and brings nearly five decades of experience representing labor unions and jointly administered employee benefit plans throughout Metropolitan St. Louis and Southern and Central Illinois. His decades of experience, institutional knowledge, and unwavering commitment to the labor movement make him an invaluable addition to the firm’s labor and employee benefits practice. Rick looks forward to continuing his longstanding relationships with labor organizations while collaborating with the attorneys at J&K to provide exceptional representation to unions and their members.

Rick has represented labor organizations in all matters relating to their rights and responsibilities under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and the Labor Management Relations Act (LMRA). His practice has included collective bargaining, contract administration, grievance proceedings, arbitration, and litigation. Rick also has extensive experience serving as counsel to Taft-Hartley employee benefit plans, advising trustees on ERISA compliance, fiduciary responsibilities, delinquent contribution collections, and employee benefits litigation.

Rick is excited to begin this next chapter with J&K and to continue serving the labor community that has been the focus of his career for nearly fifty years.
